Detailed instructions on how to randomly select questions from the library to create automated tests. Easily set up categories, levels, and quantity of questions. Explore

This method allows the system to automatically retrieve questions from the library when students start the test. Different students or test attempts may receive different sets of questions.

Steps to perform

  1. Open the quiz you are editing.
  2. Select Library on the toolbar.
  3. Select Random questions from library.
  4. Set the source and conditions for retrieving questions.
  5. Enter the number of questions and total points.
  6. Check the configuration before publishing.

Settings

Source library

Select the library containing the questions that the system will use.

Teachers can choose a personal library or a library with shared access.

Question categories

Limit the scope of question retrieval to a specific category, for example:

  • Algebra.
  • Geometry.
  • English Grammar.
  • Vietnamese History.

If All is selected, the system can retrieve questions from all categories in the source library.

Question groups

Select question groups by purpose or level, for example:

  • Basic.
  • Advanced.
  • Exam preparation.
  • Chapter 1.
  • Semester I.

If All is selected, the system will not limit by group.

Question types

Select one or more question types allowed in the test, for example:

  • Single choice.
  • Multiple choice.
  • True/False.
  • Short answer.
  • Word ordering.
  • Drag and drop matching.

Select All if you want to use all suitable question types within the established scope.

Number of questions to retrieve

Enter the number of questions the system needs to retrieve for each attempt.

Example: If the library has 100 suitable questions and the Number of questions to retrieve is set to 20, each attempt will receive 20 questions from that source.

Total group points

Enter the total points for the entire random question group.

After setting up, you need to check how the system allocates points to the questions and ensure the total quiz score is accurate.

Add multiple random question groups

Teachers can create multiple random retrieval groups within the same quiz, for example:

  • Group 1: Retrieve 10 basic Algebra questions, total 3 points.
  • Group 2: Retrieve 10 Geometry questions, total 3 points.
  • Group 3: Retrieve 4 advanced application questions, total 4 points.

Select Add question to add another configuration. Teachers can also duplicate an existing group and then adjust or delete groups that are not needed.

Important notes

  • The library must have a number of suitable questions greater than or equal to the Number of questions to retrieve.
  • A sufficiently large question source should be prepared so that tests have different levels of variation.
  • Questions within the same group should have equivalent difficulty and point values.
  • If the filtering scope is too narrow, the system may not have enough questions to generate the test.
  • Dependent questions should not be included in a random group.
  • Check to avoid cases where one question contains information that reveals the answer to another.
  • Multiple previews should be performed to evaluate the balance of the tests.
  • If the library is edited after the quiz is published, the configuration and quiz content must be re-checked.
